So I already had an @gmail.com existing Apple ID and when I signed up for MobileMe apple gave me a new @me.com Apple ID. I made some Apple purchases using this ID but now I will be closing the MM account and I would like to transfer/merge my @me.com account over to my pre-existing @gmail.com account so I can retain my purchases/records. Anybody have to do this before? The process is not immediately obviously... do appreciate any help.

I don't think it is possible. Luckily, I didn't have any DRM purchases before I got MobileMe. I also think that it is possible best not to use MobileMe as your Apple ID, just incase you decide not to renew your subscription.

I'm in the same boat as CyberCat.

On the Apple website it states:

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to consolidate them into a single Apple ID?

Sorry, but this is not possible at this time via our online tools. You can speak with an AppleCare representative, who can help you consolidate your registered Apple products. They can also help register your iPods, iPhones, or Mac computers under a single Apple ID.

So I called up and the rep said it wasn't possible.

Can't you just go to your Apple ID account management settings and change your email address?

You can change an existing Apple ID to any other email address EXCEPT an @me.com one!

You can not change the email address at all for an Apple ID automatically created for your mobile me account.

I know... I tried both!

It's kind of ironic actually that Apple is forcing me to keep a HOTMAIL account open just so I can use it as my Apple ID when I'd much rather merge everything into one email address. Opposite from the OP, I'd like to use my Mobile Me email as my Apple ID.

I just don't see how it would be so difficult to migrate purchase data between two accounts.... it shouldn't be that difficult to implement!

That is ridiculous. I tried the very same thing today but I'd rather use my current Apple ID for my MobileMe.
