I have an Apple Music family subscription. I got a new iPhone and set it up from the backup of my old phone via iTunes. I have a good number of songs in my library that I either purchased or copied to iTunes from albums or cd’s that we had. Many of the songs in my library on my new phone were replaced with different versions of songs that I have i.e., live version versus original recorded version. I don’t like the alternate versions. I want the original version I had. How can I get the library on my phone to sync with the original versions of the songs I have? The version I want is still in my iTunes. I have tried to resync multiple times but i can’t get the version on my phone to update.
I also have a bunch of songs on my new phone that won‘t play- I get the message ‘This song is not currently available in your country or region’.
How did my music library get so messed up?

I go through this exact same thing each time I get a new phone and my workaround for it is to:

- turn OFF Apple Music on my iPhone

- sync to your computer, so that all the actual mp3 files are pushed to your device

- once that is done turn on Apple Music again

Seems very ass-backwards to have to go this route but that has helped me in the past. Let me know if it works for you!

I would definitely like to try this. How do I turn off Apple Music (I am the organizer) on my iPhone?

Settings > Music

…it looks they changed it since I last did this (when I bought my iPhone 12 Pro) but looking at it now it appears to be that it’s the option that says “Sync Library”. You want to turn off that toggle.

Once it’s off, sync with you computer’s music library. Once you’re finished syncing, turn that toggle on again in iOS. If memory serves me right, it’ll ask you if you want to replace or merge the libraries. Select whichever option you prefer.

Sorry if I don’t recall with exact detail but it’s been a while since I last did this. Good luck!

This worked- thank you so much for your help. I knew there had to some way around. The last straw was that one of my songs was replaced by the Broadway version, so not even sung by the original artist. I was ready to give up on Apple Music altogether. After 4 months of frustration with this, my music library on my iphone is finally fixed!

Yeah! Glad that it worked!

Did you turn on syncing afterwards? If so, I assume it didn’t replace your old music with updated versions?

Yes I turned syncing back on when I was finished and it didn’t affect anything. Still have the versions of songs that I want on my phone. It was the perfect solution. Thanks again.
