Shouldn't it be faster to transfer files to an iPhone using the new Thunderbolt 3/USB-C to lightening cable in iTunes on the new 2017 iMacs? I tried transferring 1.24 GB music from both the TB3 port as well as the regular USB port. And both took approx. 47 seconds to do the transfer. Is USB 3 as fast when it comes to file transfers or am I missing something?

I thought the TB3 would be faster. I'm using the USB-C to lightening cable from Apple, that I'm also charging my iPad pros with.

iOS devices are limited to either USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 on more recent ones. This is due to the controller in the device itself. So a USB 3.1 port, such as the USB-C port on the iMac, will function at USB 3.0 speed (or the same speed as the USB-A ports).

It's also worth mentioning that no iOS device supports Thunderbolt, only USB.

Ahh makes sense - thanks :) How about the new iPad Pro 10.5 and both 12.9s? Is it only faster charging they benefit from, or also faster transfer speed?
