Long story, I just deleted my iPhoto library and need to grab the photos from my iPhone. I can't figure out how to do this. Any ideas?

Iphoto automatically detects the iPhone right? So there should be no problems

Sort of. It will detect the iPhone and let you copy pictures taken from the iPhone's camera, but I've seen no built-in way to copy back photos that were synced from the computer to the iPhone (via iTunes).

iPhone photo to macbook pro

I did the same thing :( Deleted a copy of my iphoto library from an external hard drive without realizing that that was the folder my computer was using. I thought it was saved on my mac as well. So now my iPhoto is empty but have all the photos on my iPhone. I haven't found any way of transferring them back. HELP!!!

if you open iphoto when you're syncing your iphone in itunes it should pop up as a device you can import photos from.

By the way, as far as I know photos are downsized when they're transferred to your iphone in the first place. so they will not have a very high resolution when you transfer them back form your phone.

Unfortunately, when this happens, it only shows pictures taken by the iPhone's camera. It doesn't let you import photos from the iPhone that were sync'ed from the computer originally.

I think a program called PhoneView for the Mac might help you with this. I saw it at the MacHeist site and I believe I could see all my photo folders, not just the camera roll one.

of course... my apologies.

is the phone jailbroken? it'd be easy in that case...

Even if you figured a way to get the photos off of your iPhone, they wouldn't be full quality. iTunes scales the images down and compresses them a lot. They are low colour and low resolution.

Another library of photos lost.

Maybe now you'll buy an external harddrive and use Time Machine. There really is no excuse not to.

If you take a screenshot of the pics, it'll go into your camera roll.

Yeah, and then you have a 480x320 version of the images.

try this

i was having trouble transferring my pics from my iphone to my mac but if u open up preview, then go to file transfer pictures from my iphone u can open them up and save them.

Photo Transfer App

Hi, I'm the developer of an iPhone app called 'Photo Transfer App' that let's you transfer photos from your iPhone to your computer and vice versa over wifi. The photos are transferred in full resolution and you only need a web browser in your computer, no cables and no iTunes required.

I hope you can check it out and find it useful:

Cheers.

Thanks! I'll be checking this out since I just spend more than an hour trying to figure out something that should be very very basic to do...

Copy a photo from my device to my hard drive. Sometimes the more Apple tries to make it easy, the harder it is.

I'm not sure if my experience is different because I'm on a PC, but when I connect my iPhone to the computer, I am able to see my iPhone as a drive (like you'd see an external harddrive) and then just copy the pictures from there to my computer.

Exactly. We should have that option on a Mac too but apparently we are too dumb to handle that method! :)

FWIW, I switched back to a Mac last year and it's just a bit different. I realize I can use iPhoto or image capture but I'd really just like to access it like a drive.

Lol. :p

I may make the switch to Mac down the road sometime too. So far my HP is serving me well but when it comes time to buy a new computer I will be considering Mac.

Running iPhoto first and then connecting iPhone is the best way to do it. Once you see the iPhone appear select as many or all pics and click on import. The photos will be copied to iPhoto album and you will be asked whether to delete them from the phone or not.

As stated above, that will only help with photos in the camera roll (e.g., tken with the iPhone). All the other photos in the library won't show up.

Regarding the answer from 'MrMacMack', yes, you could use Image capture for all photos stored on the Camera roll but not for albums stored in albums outside the camera roll.

You’ll have to use a software like Image Capture, iPhoto or Preview to import all photos from your iPhone to your Mac. FREE.

-------
For Windows:

1 Open Computer
2 Click on the drive that has your iPhone’s name
3 Open the drive within the iPhone drive and then open DCIM.
5 Copy the folder that contains the photos you want to keep safely and paste it on your desktop or somewhere where it will be safe.
