If you click file in itunes when you're iphone is connected, it says "transfer purchases from itunes" and if you click on it, it says "finding purchases on brett's iphone."

I don't know what this is, but could it possibly be a future feature for when you buy songs off of itunes from your iphone, and then transfer them onto your computer?

Replace the word iPod with iPhone and your answer is below.
Taken from iTunes help menu.

Copying iTunes Store purchases to another computer
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers. You might want to do this if you regularly use more than one computer (at home and at work or school, for example) to buy items from the iTunes Store, and you want all your purchases in both iTunes libraries.

To copy store purchases from your iPod:
Make sure the iPod has the purchased items you want to transfer.
Make sure the destination computer (the one you want to transfer items to) is authorized to play iTunes Store purchases (choose Store > Authorize and then click Authorize).
Connect your iPod to the destination computer.
Do one of the following:
If the iPod is synced with another computer or is an iPod shuffle: Click Transfer Purchases in the dialog that appears.
If the iPod is set up to manually manage items: Wait for the iPod to appear in the iTunes Source pane, and then choose File > Transfer Purchases From iPod.
You can copy an iTunes Store purchase to up to five authorized computers.
