Hi All,

I have one of those old 1st generation Tivos (series 1?) and would like to transfer its contents to a new iMac so that I can clear up some space on the Tivo. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks.

Not easy, but can be done. I did it with my MythTV before I gave my Tivo to my sister. It requires a tivo mod with an ethernet card and the hacks to get the bash prompt on the Tivo. I then ran some server program that would let me pull the files off and then I had to run them though a converter to convert them to mpeg2 files.

Thank you both! Since I'm not too tech savvy, I think I'll go with the El Gato suggestion. Time to save up big!

I use TiVoTool. v0.57 works great for me, but had a couple of problems with the latest version. This will download, and convert to mp4 if needed and add to iTunes.

BUT
- S1 does not have a network card, so you will need a TurboNet or CacheCard. Cachecard can take 512MB to speed up the TiVo interface.
