Transfer SIm contact from Tmobile card

Newbie here, just got my iPhone, cant get my phone numbers on sim card to transfer. I did go to settings and clicked on the import sim contacts and nothing happened. Can any one help so i don't have to enter each one by hand?

Is the sim card on which you have your contacts the one that is the activated sim for your iPhone?

Is the phone unlocked? Does the phone recognize that the TMobile SIM is inside of it?

Are you planning on keeping it on TMobile or did you switch to ATT and just want to put in your sim and transfer the contacts? If you are using ATT and just want to transfer contacts, you should probably just go into an ATT store and they can do it for you.
