I just bought the 5g this morning and haven't been able to get it to connect to my computer at work.. it has that damned XP issue of itunes not running. is there a way to manually upload songs to the ipod so that they show up in the music menu?

on windows, you can use ephPod if iTunes won't work.
I used it while I was still a windows user and it worked just fine.

there's a new product out, iLoad. you can load your CDs there and it transfers it straight to your iPod. i dont know how much it costs. plus, if you're dependent on music on your hard drive or ITMS, this device won't suit you.

Just enable the ability to see 'Hidden and System Files', open the iPod_Control folder, then open the music folder and upload music into any of the numbered folders.

You might try installing amarok via Fink, or maybe try building your own copy of gtkpod. There isn't much demand on the Mac side, since iTunes has always been there to deal with iPod. Is there any particular reason why you can't move on to iTunes 6?super_kev said:

Edit: I just found out that you need iTunes 6 to buy songs from the iTMS. A few days ago I was able to buy some songs w/iTunes 4, but I guess that's the end of that. Someone needs to update JHymn to work with v6.
