Under the Edit menu --> Special characters, you can set characters as 'favorites', for easy access.

I use this all the time, and I've created a giant set on my one Mac, and I would like to have this list on another Mac. Any suggestions on how to port the list? I assume there's a plist hiding somewhere, but I have no idea on where to look.

In your Library->Preferences folder there are 2 files related to Special Characters:
  • com.apple.CharacterPaletteIM.plist
  • com.apple.CharacterPicker.plist
I think these are the files you are looking for.

Thanks a lot Bear, I'll give it a try.

Edit: com.apple.CharacterPaletteIM.plist does seem to contain a list of my favorites, so I assume that has to be the one!
