I know that you can directly connect to macs together with firewire, but my problem is that im not goin to have my old one as im selling it, so u was just wondering if there was a program or something that took all the nercessary stuff and could store it on an ipod or something similar, i suppose i could just store everything i want transfered over on the ipod anyway manually and then transfer it over to my new machine.

just a word of caution. i had done that. got the "successful clone" message, thought all was ok, but when i opened it up on the new powerbook, almost none of my applications made it over. which is fine for the most part, but it was a bit bothersome.
How much Data are we talking about? If it's 20gb or something then perhaps DVD's might be a solution (buy a DVD burner).
If you are going bigger the easiest solution is an external HD. As for more cost effective measures you are going to be looking at very slow and boring media (copying to CD-ROMs).
