I want to transfer my music over from my old PC to my iMac. Is it possible to do so with an iPod? I have it connected and I can play the songs on my computer through the iPod but I can't figure out how to copy them to the hard drive. Any advice?

Thank you!

Not being an iPod owner but... I think you can only transfer the music between computers using iPod if they are on a hard drive area designated for data, if that makes sense. i.e. iPod must treat them as any other bit of data, but not music imported from iTunes.

Best bet is to do it over a network if you can, or bun a few CDs of the mp3s themselves.

"iPodRip" is a pretty good one. Just google it.

ipod>itunes is not as good as using the import function in itunes IMO.
If you can network your comps together your probs are solved.

Edit: I use PodWorks, which can also re-create playlists from the ipod, and, as far as I'm aware, hasn't ever lost iD3 data on me.

To add to this question: If I bought music in iTunes on a PC and want to import them to a Mac using an ext. HD, would I just copy the protected files, and add them to iTunes on the Mac and then grant it access?
