iPod transfering OTA purchased songs

So I download a song today via the iTunes Store app on my ipod touch. I have my ipod setup for manual media management. I could not figure out how to get that song from the ipod to my actual Mac HD. I had to use PhoneView in order get the song off the ipod.

I know there must be a more logical way to do this without using third party software. I don't want to use auto syncing; is there a solution for this?

Under the File menu there is a Transfer Purchase From .. choice. Does that do it?

Yah I saw that after the fact; I just downloaded an App from the mobile store and tried to hit transfer purchases and it worked so I figure that is how you do it.
