Transfering pictures from PC to MacBook Pro

I recently bought a MACBOOK PRO 17" CORE 2 DUO 2.4ghz/2GB/160HD/256", "my first mac" Everything about OS X is new to me. I found a copy of iLife and iWorks inside of my packaging, and decided to install them on my MacBook Pro. I'm a expert at navigating the PC, but I'm a novice when it comes to OS X.

I want to transfer all my pictures + iTunes music from my PC over to my mac, how can I accomplish this task being a novice?

You could transfer them over a network, burn a cd/dvd with the content you want on it, you could use and iPod or flash drive or an external hard drive. Thats just a few ways Im sure there are easier ways but I'm still kinda a newb at OS X

What sort of resources do you have? Do you have an external HDD? That's probably the easiest thing to do. Format the HDD as FAT32 (do it from the PC), then transfer everything over to the HDD, unplug it, plug it into the Mac, and take everything off.

If you have any proficiency with PC networking, set up a Windows share on your PC, then select "Connect to Server" from the Finder in OS X. enter SMB://your.windows.ip.here/~windowsusername, and you should be able to get to your shared files on your PC (assuming they're connected over Ethernet, wireless, or Firewire).

I have over 9GB of pictures, plus 45GB of iTunes music... I'll have to figure out how to make my PC see my mac, then go from there.

Why didn't I think of that, I have a Seagate FreeAgent Desktop USB 500GB External Hard Drive, I'll try that tonight.

My apologizes for the newb question just don't want to jack my new MacBook Pro up.
