transfering stuff from your old mac drive

I had a mac mini and my friends daughter wrecked it but the hard drive is ok, is there a way of pulling the programmes over to my ne wmac mini off the old one without reinstalling them, i did see i think they call it a sata cradle you plug your drive into anyone know if you can then just go in and drag your files and programmes over to youe new mac.

You can use such cradle/dock, but you could also use an external USB enclosure for 2.5" S-ATA HDDs.
Then use Migration Assistant or CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to copy your data.

Ok thank you so much, as i have been trying to look for something on this, i was hoping that all my programmes that are already installed such as final fraft etc and my pxelmator and storiyist and other software i could just go into my hard drive then pull the files striaght over, and put them onto the mac hard drive without having to go and look for all the installations disks and just spend hours reinstalling what is already on my old hard drive.
