Transferring files from old imac to the new imac

1. What is the difference between firewire 400 and 800?

2. Could I use firewire to transfer files from my old imac G5 (2007) to the new one?

1. FW 400 has a data rate of 30-40MB/s, FW 800 has a data rate of 55-65MB/s.
