transferring large files to shared hard drive

I am going to attach a hard drive to my airport extreme to send video I convert with handbrake to my itunes computer. I hear it works but takes a long time.

Is their anyway to check the data integrity of the file once I get it to the iTunes computer, before deleting the original.

Something along the line of the md5sum check you can do to check a iso of Ubuntu is correct before installing it?
