Transferring Photos From iPhone To iMac ?

Hello,

You all have been so helpful with my questions; thanks again.
80's now, first MAC, and lots to learn.

I may have touched on this before, but still going around in circles with it.

Let's say I take a photo, or video, on my iPhone 6S.
No problem, it shows up immediately in the Photo App on the phone.

But, I now want to transfer this photo, or a bunch of them, to the Photos App on the
iMac.

I would like to avoid iCloud, and DropBox, etc. if possible.

I can of course send it as an eMail to the Mac, but is there a better, more direct
method ?

I keep thinking there must be, but cannot find out how.

If you directly plug in your phone, iPhoto should auto pop up and ask if you wish to import photos, etc.

if not automatically then open iPhoto and select import.

Just plug it in an import...

Enabling iCloud is much easier as it ensures you have a back up, has unlimited storage and automatically downloads to your Photos library.

I guess when you say "plug in" (Phone plugged into the MAC) you mean via a cable ?
What exactly kind of cable do I need to buy for this ?

Any way wirelessly (other than iCloud) or sending eMails with ?

Does iCloud still charge if you go over 5 GB ?

use the charging cable into USB port of the Mac.
yes iCloud charge over 5GB but it is cheap still.

I know you can wireless with iTunes unknown about photo app as I do not use photo app.

For direct transfer without any cloud use AirDrop

- Be in Bluetooth/WiFi range of your iPhone and Mac
- Open Photo App on iPhone
- Select the photos/videos you want to transfer
- Select Share (bottom left of screen)
- Your Mac should show up in the AirDrop section (if not you may have to enable it in the iPhone, iMac settings)
- You may have to accept on the iMac
- This should transfer the photos/videos to the Download folder on the Mac

I am facing the same issue and I wish there is a good solution.

The purpose is to create photo albums on my iPhone, so I can more easily browse and search for important photos in the albums on my iPhone instead of browsing through the thousands of pictures in the camera roll. iPhone's speed and screen size are both insufficient for efficiently creating albums and selecting photos. That's why I want to do this on my Mac, and the first thing to do is to sync the iPhone and Mac.

I don't want to use iCloud to sync my iPhone and Mac, as my iCloud free account does not have enough space for even half of my photos on my iPhone.

I know Photos can transfer iPhone photos to a Mac, but it doesn't transfer the existing albums on the iPhone. Because of this, it is out of consideration.

Is there any app that does not only sync photos and also albums between a Mac and an iPhone? If yes, I can sort out the tons of pictures using my Mac, create appropriate albums, and then put the albums on the iPhone, and continuously doing these from time to time.

Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

The most convenient way is to use iCloud photo library. Everything is automatically synced to all your devices.

If you don't want to use iCloud, you can send the photo to the Mac using airdrop ie send the file wirelessly to your Mac directly, which doesn't involve the internet.

Question: I have the iphone 6S wired into the USB Port on the iMac, and this works well.

Can it also be done wirelessly using AirDrop ? If so, how, please ?

There is an app called PhotoSync for Mac and iOS. I use it to copy outside of the iCloud / Photos environment.

Works very well.

Assuming that your photo/videos are under 50GB, this is the easiest option. Cancel the iCloud storage after confirming the pics/vids have been transferred to your iMac.

$.99 + tax and all your albums and meta data is synced. No headaches.
