I have a few photos that I’d like to upload to the iCloud Photos . They are currently on an SD card. If I plug the SD card into my MacBook and copy the photos from my Sd card to my MacBook photo gallery would the photos still remain as their original size on my MacBook or would they still be optimized per what setting I currently have enabled. Thanks.

They *may* get optimised on your Mac at some point (probably not immediately) depending on what the setting you have set in Photos -> Settings -> iCloud. If you want to be sure they won't be then choose the "download originals to this Mac" option. Note that there is no way to control this per photo/album etc.

Thanks. Yes, I’d like them to eventually get optimized on my MacBook. Primary goal was to get my photos from my SD card to the iCloud so that I could also view them from my iPhone, which isn’t set to optimize photos.
