iPod Transferring songs onto a new macbook

I have an old ipod video 30gb, and am getting a new macbook after the new line comes out, my question is, can i just plug my ipod into my mac and it automatically downloads my songs and videos onto itunes

Have a look at this support article. Or use something like Senuti to download them straight from your existing iPod library if they're already on there.
