So my wife and I have iphones. And we have a conversation / thread going back years, maybe to 2014.

Her phone a "legacy" iphone SE / 16GB. And a month or two back the phone began deleting entire conversations.

Hers with me
Hers with one son [but not the other son]
A 5-way conversation among family members.

Apple folks think the problem might be the 16GB storage when new IOS / other updates get pushed down.

So backed up the phone, upgraded to a 2020 SE with 64GB. And restored the backup to the new phone.

Within a week threads were deleting again.

Now Apple says the backup may be corrupt, and instead let iphone download from individual app backups.

So we'll see. But now about the missing threads.

I have hers with me; and also the 5-way; and our son has hers with him.

So . . . are there any apps would allow one user to export a thread and another user import it?

Thanks!

Yup the forever parameter is set. But I would think if 'forever' were not set,

- the oldest messages would be trimmed off the back end of the thread, and
- messages would be trimmed from every thread.

In this case, an entire thread is disappeared . . . and other equally 'old' threads are untouched

'Forever' is the first thing I set. But that prevents the oldest messages from being trimmed off the back end. Not an entire 6-year thread
