Translation of Term, USB specs?

I'm waiting in the wings to go modern, and get the new iMac.

There are hundreds of postings about it. My two questions are:

a) what does BTO refer to?

b) my ext HD for backup is a 1Tb LaCie. USB/Fw400/Fw800/eSata. Currently using eSata for connection. What happens to performance when I connect a USB 3 cable to USB 2 device?

I'm taken aback by all the dissatisfaction expressed on the iMac forum.

a) BTO = Built To Order. Meaning you customize it how you want to.

b.) It slows to USB 2 speeds.

Don't forget that a lot of the dissatisfaction right now is due to people upset with the Apple event...they are outraged that X didn't happen or Y did happen or god knows what else.

also people who are content tend not to start threads.
