So I've been using Transmission, one of many BitTorrent clients available for Mac OS X and I've been using it to download torrents here at school. However, I used to be able to get the .torrent files by going behind a proxy and then download them without any problems but now it seems the school has also blocked the ports that Transmission would normally use.

Any ideas?

Can you not just change the ports in the preferences. Use 20, 21, 80, or 8080 as those are standard FTP/HTTP ports.

TEG

With all of those ports you suggested I get a "Port is Stealth" message...

Did you find a solution?

Hey macgeek7 -
I know this is more than 2 years later, but I was hoping that you could share a solution with me. I'm also at school, using Transmission to download torrents, and ALL of my ports are closed, including 20,21,80, and 8080. Did you find anything that helped?
Let me know,

I never did figure it out, it just fixed itself for the most part. I just made sure there were a lot of seeders and leechers and that seemed to help. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
