Not sure if I’m imagining this but I felt like before the update, Transparency Mode was great. Could hear everything like nothing was in my ear. Now it feels like it’s somewhere between not wearing the APP and having them selected to “OFF.” It seems I’m asking people to repeat themselves more often than before. It’s definitely working. Just not as great as before.

For reasons unknown, my AirPods Pro have stayed at firmware version 2B584. They still sound as good as the day I got them a month ago.

Don't know if there's any way to downgrade the firmware. Probably not since we're talking about Apple.
Wanna trade? Lol.
Wish I could go back just to check if I’m going crazy. Had to do an unpair re-pair last night ‘cause they were wigging out. In-ear detection wasn’t working on the left side. Couldn’t switch modes (kept going back to “off” on their own). Music wasn’t playing in right ear among other issues.
Had them painted too so I’m pretty sure the warranty is voided lol.

So transparency doesn’t feel muffled to you, even in the slightest? Used to feel like my hearing was amplified.
It sounds like the AirPods are not in my ears. No muffled sounds at all. Easily the best application of this feature compared to every other buds I’ve tried.

I’d strongly agree until recently. Damn. Well, thanks for the reply. I’m gonna go to the store and test a different pair. Maybe I need to clean my ears better lol

Who knows, maybe whoever painted them got some paint or other debris over one of the microphones.

There are at least two per AirPod: one for voice calls/Siri instructions, the other for ambient noise detection/transparency.

Knowing Apple, the AirPods Pro are probably highly sensitive to foreign object intrusion. Hell, we know an eyelash or breadcrumb can take down the keyboard of a $2500 MacBook Pro.

Anyhow, best of luck.
Hahaha to the eyelash comment

Anyway, It was fine before the last update and they’ve been painted the whole time I had them. I’ll check the speaker grills again for other debris. Thank you.

Not happy it’s not just me but I guess I’m not going crazy. Lately I feel like I’m always hoping/waiting for the next update.

Ahh this is heart breaking.

I was just going to suggest bringing them back in under warranty, but as soon as I read that, I felt sorry for ya.

It wouldn’t have been cheap to eh :(

Tip for next time - try some removable skins: much cheaper & you‘re covered (punnage!) for any hardware defects.

Good luck.

I’m a grown adult and completely understood the risk so no need to feel sorry for me lol. I got so entrenched in the rumors for black AirPods and was so disappointed when it wasn’t delivered that I went to extreme measures. Had skins on my AirPod 2 but wasn’t happy with the results, so I sent those in too hahaha. Not a huge fan of white electronics. Prefer all my stuff to be black and not flashy. I do get questioned a lot if they’re fake AirPods lol. Should’ve known better considering I had to have each component of my AirPod 2’s warrantied in three separate occasions.

I’m similar - don’t want to stand out with the “Apple white”, so got in contact with a few skin makers. One was generous enough to send me a prototype to test out for them. I’ll put an update in my Skins thread here once I slap them on.

Cool... I’d love to read about it.
