I'm about to make the change to Apple when the new iPhone comes out...

I've been staunchly Android for years but the market has been smashed by the Chinese.

As paranoid as it sounds, I don't like that idea that the fingerprint, and now thumbprint, scanners in any Chinese phone is sending data back to Beijing.

The one thing I DON'T want to give up are my homescreen widgets.

There are 20 on the image below... in two banks of 10 buttons 4x5 rows.

My question is... are there any widgets apps that allow transparency adjustment?

The iPhone screen is always so busy looking.

Thanks in advance.

As I recall there have been ways to place transparent app icons to create some space even now, and with widgets on the home screen that might be possible if they would allow for transparency settings (it doesn't seem like they do so far in the iOS 14 betas).

That said, the home screen can be set up so that at least the first page doesn't have anything on it (aside from the dock).

So, even independant apps can't run their own way?..like on android?
I've used widgetsoid for years. It allows me to add its own widgets to the home screen...

Are you saying that iPhone native programming dictates the behaviour of 3rd party apps?

Apps can do as much as the OS allows them to do. So far it doesn't seem like that level of transparency is possible with the new widgets, but since they are new and are only in beta right now without any 3rd party apps actually making use of them, it's hard to say for sure one way or another.

That said, based on what you described in terms of what you want to accomplish (as in an empty home page) it seems like that should be possible with what iOS supports already, even without the new widgets.

Thanks for the update.
I'm not looking for an empty screen. There are 20 transparent icons on the pic attached.
I don't like the idea of jailbreaking a brand new device either. It's annoying that apple have such a strong grip over what's possible...

There's that and there's also the part that you can have the first/main home screen empty and just things in the next screen.
Yeah, I get it, but it defeats the object of what I'm trying to achieve.
Minimalist and one touch to my essential apps without having a busy phone screen.
I'll find a way. It's my thing. It's often quicker to ask people who know, though.

If you want that level of visual customization, iOS is probably not for you. iOS can be customized to your needs in some really nice ways, especially with Shortcuts, and with iOS 14 you’ll start to enjoy some really creative widgets from talented and passionate developers. But when it comes to looks - it is this “grip” you mention that allows for consistency across the system and something I prefer compared to Android.

In many ways iOS and Android are similar - but in some big ways they are exactly the opposite. If you like the fact that you can change anything in Android - you won’t like iOS. For me, uniformity, consistency and quality beat all that and the fact that Android is so customizable is, actually, something that keeps me away from it. I want a curated experience where I can focus on what matters.

It’s two different mindsets, really.

Wouldn't having an empty first home screen accomplish that? Seem like that's what was basically presented in the screenshot that was included originally.
