This sounds exactly like a program I suggested on HowardForums on 8/7

SpeedTrap
A program that crowdsources the location of cops watching for speed. When you drive by one, you tag the location and it lets other users in the area know that there was someone watching speed for the next couple of hours. It also keeps a database of frequently watched locations.

If it wasn't free, I would want some royalties :D

This application has been around for quite a while on other phone platforms.

I've tried this app and found the data to be pretty unreliable. Maybe this will change as they get more submissions, but for now it's not very useful.

The interface is not very well designed, either. Instead of using the pinch and squeeze gestures to zoom, you have to use a slider, which is a major hassle. And you can't scroll around the map to see what's ahead. You can only center it on your position.

There's another similar app called "iRadarUSA", but that one costs $15.

In order to receive trap notifications, does the app need to be running or is it always running in the background?
