The way mac works is it doesn't fully delete items from trash it's just the way it works
I recommend purchasing clean my mac 2 to delete the trash properly
I'd recommend to not recommend that bloated trash to anyone. You shouldn't use it too.

sudo du -d 1 -x -c -g /.Trashes
I think you might be thinking of MacCleaner. Horrible software! I've had to rescue my in-laws from it.
Clean my mac 2 is an amazing piece of software
Go to finder top left then preferences turn on secure trash

yeah i recommend purchasing that as well. It's really good imo but unfortunately from what I know they don't support Yosemite yet. (

Here I did the work for you, here is the Yosemite version

Run this in Terminal and see what it says. It will show the space used in GB. You will be prompted for your password.

I tried this and even though I actually had stuff in the Trash at the time, I got the following result:
Emptied the trash and still got the same result...so strange...
