Hello there

We are planning a short trip by car beginning of September to Switzerland. So far, we have noted the following cities:

1. Annecy
2. Chamonix
3. Bern
4. Grindelwald
5. Lausanne
6. Geneva

we are staying around Lac Léman and we plan 10 days in total.

Any recommendations we might have missed in this list? What things to do would you suggest in this shortlist?

Oh just up my ally. I sguuest breaking the trip in blocks following accessibility. Well Annecy and Chamonix are in France , Annecy is a lovely medieval town on a lake. Chamonix is more modern and touristy (not my favourite) but if you like mountains I recommend taking the cable car up to the L'Aiguille du Midi for a stunning view of Mt. Blanc. (Highest peak in Europe for our non-European friends).

Lausanne and Geneva can be done in a day - both have interesting old towns, the Olympic Museum near Lausanne (actually in a town called Ouchy on the lake) is a must. A tour of the UN in Geneva is also interesting (https://www.ungeneva.org/en/visit) . I would add going to Vevey and visitng the Charlie Chaplin Museum (Chaplin's world )as it isn't far from Lausanne and can be an afternoon trip. Fascinating if you are interested in the history of cinema. Bern is worth a couple of days as it is very pretty and there is also an Einstein Museum (he lived there as well).

Grindelwald has been recommended to me but I've never been but it is near Bern and the vistas are said to be stunning. I hope this is a start anyway.

The weather should still be warm but do try a fondue and particularly raclette. Perch fillets served with fries are another must. Wine, especially white is good everywhere.

In Chamonix, take the cable car(s) up to Aiguille du Midi for a spectacular view! (Just be ware of height sickness due to the rapid ascent. I almost went down for the count, and didn't really come to until we landed back down on Plan de l'Aiguille on the way down again. Now, this was mostly my own fault for "jogging" up the stairs to the viewing platform, because I was young and stupid, but still worth being careful.)

I also recommend to visit Moléson-sur-Gruyères where there's a small cheese museum and they serve a very good fondue (based on the local Gruyere cheese, of course). There's also toboggan ride for the more adventurous.

A bit off your path, but still not too far (especially if you do it after Grindelwald):

Drive up to Täsch and walk up (or take the local train) to Zermatt for a nice view of the Matterhorn**, then down to Brigerbad for a soak in the hot springs.

** My parter and I are notoriously unlucky when it comes to mountain top views: I've been to Switzerland 3 times, and only seen Mont Blanc from a plane (going over the Alps heading for Rome). Didn't see the Matterhorn, either, when we were in Zermatt, just clouds. Same has also happened in Scotland (Old Man Storr on Isle of Skye). And in Nikko, Japan where the lake, a volcano and the spectacular falls were all covered in fog; and we've yet to see Mt. Fuji.

Zermatt by far was one of our favorite places to visit. So much so, we want to go back and do New Years there. The views are amazing, the town/village, is everything we expected. The people, the food, the entire atmosphere was absolutely amazing!

We also visited Lucerne, Bern, and Zurich. We really want to go to Gruyeres during the winter season next.

I can say we didn't have a single bad meal and the Fondue is freaking amazing. The other dish I fell in love with was the Raclette... Yes I love cheese and there was no shortage of cheese to be had!

Sounds amazing.

Oh, yum.

I love a really good Raclette (and it is every bit as good as a cheese served on a cheese-board, as it is when served melted).

We had our tradtional dinner with the homestay families of our study aboard students. As usual at the Chateau de Nyon (the restaurant in the basement called Caveau de Nyon) this time we had fondue rather than raclette, also one of the best in the region, which was terrific as was the restaurant's own wine.
