To anyone who takes the time to help; thank you.

Quick Facts:
- iPhone 4S
- iOS 6.0.1 (10A523)

I am traveling to Mexico for 4 weeks time. At&t international add on plan rates are pretty steep in price. I was hoping by jailbreaking my phone with the new jailbreak that is out and then unlocking my phone I would be able to then purchase an appropriate SIM card in my destination city that would be able to provide me with talking minutes/data/text.

Is there anyone that has done this before, is familiar with the process, or can just explain to me in a concise way how to go about this. I really appreciate any input/time.

Thank you.

no unlock for the 4s via jailbreaking, however you can buy an permanent unlock for less than $2 at swift unlocks

unlock your phone via ebay or at&t & get local sim. get a google voice # or port your # to google voice. you'll get all your sms and voicemail via google voice app.

So there is no real NEED to jailbreak my phone first before purchasing an unlock from eBay / swift unlocks?

Can you or anyone else give me a resource that EASILY explains the unlock process?

Then buy a local SIM card, place local SIM in iPhone 4S and I will be all set to go? Why get google voice if the local SIM has minutes on it?

I will be calling people back in the U.S. as well as other employees down in Mexico that will be with me (they have U.S. iPhones as well).

AGAIN - Thank you!

There is a plan from AT&T called Viva Mexico, i believe its about $10 a month and you can remove it whenever you want and you get to use your minutes in Mexico as if you were in the US, call Mexican numbers (land and cell) and US numbers. No data or texting though :/

Source: I have that plan!

AT&T phones can be IMEI unlocked for $5
You can then use any GSM sim forever
No need to jailbreak

There is a huge thread here on IMEI unlocks if you need more info but this is a no brainer.

Get your phone unlocked by swiftunlocks once they confirm its unlocked get a pre-paid Telcel SIM card (Telcel is one of the few Mexican carriers that actually has good coverage and decent speeds).
