travelling with Imac

Guys,

Sorry, I'm not sure where exactly to post this thread. and therefore I place it in a few places at the same time.

I am an iMac user too and love to have it carry around. I found almost nothing about bags for iMac and the iLugger mentioned above looks really crap. I decide to design one for myself and need some advises and comment.

I have business relationships with a few luggage factories in Hong Kong, as I can see theres a lot of request for this bag and so I believe theres a market for this thing.

It will take me around 4-5 days to complete the first product, but by meanwhile, I would like anybody who can put in some ideas for my consideration during my design. Thanks.

I would never buy a case with no protection on the zips, scratch risk is too high!

weight! Should not weight a ton. iMac is quite heavy already. If you going to market as shoulder bag, then this is very important. Less important for bag on wheels. 20- 25 ponds + case weight is not a joke! Especially for women if they crazy enough to carry something like that. Also dimensions. I believe iLugger has quite thick padding. That adds to more protection, but bigger dimensions. Never make a bag from leather!

This is hilarious! We're talking about carrying it around like a laptop from place to place??

For me, I could see wanting it with you if you're going on a long road trip or something. In that case, use the box it came with and put it in the trunk.

I can't imagine carrying it around or rolling it around with you! haha That is too funny. I would think the same people would also be putting it in bed with them at night. Yes, I love my new iMac, but it's staying on my desk.

(I do admit that I wish it would easier to move around so I could set it up downstairs easily or in another room in the house at times, but it's just too much of a hassle... my iPhone works for that. My laptop could, but it's XP, and I officially hate Microsoft, so I limit my usage of it now)

I am no joking. My idea is that once there is something to make it easy (and safe) to carry, then people will carry it. A typical notebook is not light-weight too, without a proper bag no one will like to bring it out too.

As a business user I have a few reasons doing this:
1, First Apple notebooks are much more expensive and Imac is much cheaper and have the same performance comparing to Macbook PRO + better hardware
2, I want only one computer for my work and software. I do not want to keep moving my data, email, files or whatever back and forth from my home to work and office back to home. One more laptop not only means cost more for the hardware but also have to pay once more for the cost of the software I'm using.
3, The traveling bag is intend for people who want to work at office and want to bring their work back to home. I know notebook is a good option, but iMac is small enough to carry too. It has a larger screen and its cheaper (I can't afford a Macbook PRO with top configuaration )
4, It should be safe for flight travellers too, although it has to be placed into the luggage cabin. I am serious for the protection with the design. And would like any people here could comment on my finishing product in 2-3 days time.

Best of luck, but you are dreaming if you think there's a proper market for this product. A 20" iMac (never mind a 24") is a hefty piece of kit to be lugging around. Taking it hand carry on the plane? Forget it! You can't compare an iMac to a laptop. Nobody in their right mind is going to buy an iMac as their sole computer if portability is an important feature. They're either going to buy a Macbook or a MBP. If they want a bigger display on their desk, they'll buy an ACD to go with it. I seriously doubt offering an iMac bag will convince anyone that their iMac is now a portable computer. But hey, I may be wrong!

My husband and I gave his laptop to our son and we plan on taking my imac on vacations with us. My main concern is that it is packaged well in the car when we travel so it does not jiggle too much and the screen does not get broken or scratched. We have only flown one time and took my husbands laptop and i wished only that I had my imac. I also went to Texas for 2 1/2 weeks and would have liked my imac, I missed it so much. The ease of use, the OS.
I have a 20" that to me isn't that heavy at all. I prefer desktops to laptops so taking the imac with me would be a must.
Oh having it on wheels would be great, a good strap on it if I decide to carry it.

Thanks for all the input. I know it is heavy and big (comparing to laptops). But at least me myself would like to have one and I see some (though not a lot) people are looking for that around different forums and asking if such a thing existed. Not only iLugger but i also found iMCruzer but this thing is very clumsy too.

iMac sales have been very strong, at selling 20,000pcs per day world-wide. And its still growing. I think its still a good market even I am looking for 0.5% of this number. The point is that I am not the only one who can seek this market value.

The padded cover that holds iMac, keyboard, and everything else is a clever idea. However, I do not believe the soft luggage is acceptable.

Only something like this is strong enough to protect a US$1500 (and more if you add the accessories like iPod) equipment against the airport baggage handlers:
