hello,
i have a macbook pro mid 2012 for many years and decided to replace the old hdd with an old 1TB WD passport external portable hdd with the red jumper removed to possibly benefit some extra rotation speed.

i removed the dvd and i now have the 1TB and a 500GB ssd. All hdds have high sierra on them.
I kept the older 250GB to use with an external usb2 enclosure so i can possibly later clone osx to the 1TB partition hdd.

i tried to install opencore Sonoma on another hard drive with the Opencore file on the SSD and i saw it was not that bad for using some newer versions of programs in future.

I then decided to use the SSD as scratch disk to work faster with imaging apps etc. and i want at the moment to make the 1TB to boot 3 operating systems.
1. High Sierra which is my favorite
2. Opencore with sonoma or other compatible version
3. Linux if is possible.

Since Sonoma i think needs APFS i am not sure how to proceed with disk utility to create extended journal for High Sierra and APFS for sonoma and then what format for the Linux.

How do i partition the 1TB to operate ok with the 3 operating Systems.
After partitioning what program do i use to allow me install all 3 op. systems so when i press alf key on mac to show available volumes and allow me choose which to boot and have ofcourse ie the 1st option HSierra the default boot osx.

Furthermore, if i find the 1TB is too slow for me, i may replace it with 1TB SSD and make the 500GB SSD a triple-boot. If this can be done with SSD since High sierra is not APFS and i tried via disk utility to see if i can create APFS etc and there is no such option anywhere in menus, how can i do it in order to have smooth install.

For Linux which version would you suggest for better compatibility with the other OS´s on the 1TB.
Is partitioning the only option or must all be done via APFS and containers and how. I want to have a chance accessing the rest hdd space on other high sierra for example laptops if i have to xchange files.

thanks
