Hi,

I am the very happy user of an iPhone 3G, and I use it for almost everything. Unfortunately I work for a company in where the IT Dept. are a bunch of tossers (i.e. MS lovers). They have decided that iPhones are not allowed to be used for company business, and that only MS devices are permitted. Of course I am not about to start running around with two phones, and I need to find a way to disguise that I am using an iPhone.

I have all the credentials for logging into the MS Exchange 2007, and that works fine, but of course it is then registered that I am connecting using an iPhone. Using Webmail I can see that my iPhone is registered as my mobile device, with name, Device ID, and the User Agent. This unfortunately also means the IT Dept. has the possibility of erasing the data, and I could potentially loose my job

Is there a way (except for simply using Webmail via Safari), to synchronise Calendar, Contacts, and Emails, without the IT Dept. knowing I am using an iPhone? I don't care about the push functionality, I just want pull working. Could I go through an intermediary, could I use an application which disguises the unit, is there a way?

I think before you try all of this you should go have a talk with these people

There must be some real reason for banning the iPhone...

There is nothing to do. The geek squad do not like Apple, and the CIO is supporting them entirely. Believe me, I have tried for the last year.

Also, is it worth potentially getting fired for violating your company's use policies?

On another note, if the IT Dept has 1% of a brain, they'll know you are using an iPhone to connect.

It wouldn't be worth it if you ask me. I hate carrying more than one phone but I am forced to do that too.

If you dislike it that bad see if you can find a job somewhere that might allow you to use it. I just don't think it is worth losing your credibility and integrity and probably your job over a phone. Even a cool phone like the iPhone.

Do you have Citrix at work? I have exchange (actually activesync) working with mail, but I also have citrix through the Citrix Receiver app. Outlook is published via Citrix for us, so you could get full Outlook access that way.

Also, if your IT group allows Windows Mobile phones to sync, there is no reason to deny the iPhone. It uses the same protocol as any Windows Mobile phone, and is just as secure when using this protocol.

Could you try synching your exchange info to google ? I think there's a program you can run on your PC to synch the calendar items and contacts to google. Then you could sync your iphone to google.

Syncing to Google, or using the Citrix solution (yes, we have Citrix, even Outlook over Citrix) for iPhone was exactly the kind of ideas I was looking for
