Hey all, I tried to install Developer Preview 3 today (I know DP4 came out but I already had this one downloaded). The installer gets about 70% done or so and then says installation fails. The installer quits, followed by Finder.. I can't open any programs, they all bounce on the dock then sit back down without opening. So I hold the start button down until the computer restarts. When it does, it shows the Apple logo and tries to boot up, but there's a kernel dump full of command line entries saying mixed kexts and a bunch of errors... a beige colored screen.. says "mac os version not set"

Luckily I have Boot Camp so I can at least boot into Windows and this works fine, so it's just the OS files on Mac must've gotten messed up during the update. Now, I'm just wondering how to boot into Lion Recovery to restore OS files (I'm sure the updater didn't touch any other applications or documents). I know there is the Lion Recovery Disk maker from Apple, but that won't work on Windows. Any help??

Thats far from "bricked", you just messed up your OS installation.

But that aside, isn't the recovery partition visible when you hold alt during boot?

Yeah that's what I meant... But no, nothing shows ups but my windows and Mac partitions. Luckily i can boot into windows fine but can't get past that kernel dump if I select macintosh. Could I create a lion recovery assistant on a thumb drive from another Mac? I fear that won't be recognized either.

thanks for the replies... yup I just used a roommates mac with Lion to make a recovery HD on my flash drive, then restored my Mac partition from a Time Machine backup.. hope this helps anyone else in the same situation- frustrating until you find someone else with a mac.. now running mtn lion DP4!
