I had an unlocked iphone 3gs and was using redsnow to update to ios5, every thing went find till the end when my phone was suppose to restore and boot up but never did. Now my screen is completely black and when I connect it to itunes it says my phone is in recovery mode and to restore but when I go to restore it say " This device isn’t eligible for the requested build " I've tried so many different things to fix it. Some new suggest and ideas would be great to get it back to normal or to factory settings.

What error message is it giving you? (error number would be helpful)

Also, you might want to list what you have tried already so we can get some idea of what "new" suggestions we can offer and aren't just telling you to do things you've already tried.

After a long search I finally got it to work.

If it was ever still on its not bricked..... people need to learn how to use this term correctly.

If you actually bricked your phone, that's exactly what you have. A brick/paperweight instead of a phone and you cannot eventually get it to work again.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

No, Alpha, the term can still be used if they think they bricked their phone forever, if they provide no symptoms that it still works.

Also OP update via iTunes for more reliability, even though iTunes can still screw up your device badly.

I did a alt click on restore with 4.1. Then from there it went out of being completely blacked screen to the connecting device and itunes symbol where it would give me a 1015 to error when trying to restore and I restored it with recboot and used my back up file to get it back to how it was though now I have no cydia on it and was wondering how I could update to ios 5 without this happening again.
