I did something wrong. My iPhone never showed up on the desktop. I tried changing some settings and now I can't use my iPhone. There is a message at the top of the iPhone screen which says external switch not found (not surprising). I've tried turning switch control on/off on my Mac but to no avail. My iPhone was stuck on emergency contacts screen. I touched something and then 'your phone is locked for 2 minutes'. So, basically my phone is unusable until I correct what I screwed up.

Except I don't know what I screwed up so reversing will be difficult.

I now see the Lock Screen with the keypad for entering your passcode. Anyone have any idea? Tried entering my passcode, didn't work and now my iPhone is going to be locked for 15 minutes.

Thanks for any help.

Tom

A chat with Apple helped. My own fault for not making sure I had 2 phones before experimenting with one. Off to go buy an iPhone SE as backup. And yeah I guess I need a backup phone. I'm a dialysis patient, living alone in a very rural area.

D'oh, and stupid me just remembered I have a cellular watch (though it won't work out side of the house/wifi coverage from my routers/extenders, b/c of absolutely atrocious cell signal.

And, being a typical Canadian, I told the Apple dude that it was my fault (and it was, for messing around with a feature I knew nothing about). Hey, at least I had a phone backup from last night and hourly Carbon Copy Cloner backups of my MBA.
