I don't about the fans but, for an easy temp check and other things you could download cleanmymac x.

Placing a heavy load on the CPU for an extended period of time usually triggers the fans. Merely surfing the web and watching YouTube videos won't trigger.

To see the temps etc., you need a third party app. iStat Menus is a one that many here use, including myself.

iStat menu tells you temperatures and allows you to control fan speed. So you can trigger fans to full blast manually there. That does not check if firmware itself would trigger them, but you should hear that they work. There surely are other programs like that.
Those temperature sensors for M1 mini have really confusing names, no idea what they mean. But it is entertaining to watch.

You dont need to install a package just to check if your fan is working. The following command line from a terminal session will return the fan speed for you. Runs spindump command for 1 sec and parses output for the fan speed (spindump output is verbose).

SD=~/.spindump.txt;sudo rm $SD;sudo spindump 1 1 -file "$SD" ;grep "Fan speed" $SD

Sampling all processes for 1 seconds with 10 milliseconds of run time between samples
Focusing on launchd [1]
Sampling completed, processing symbols...
Spindump analysis written to file /Users/<user>/.spindump.txt
Fan speed: 1696 rpm

Running diagnostics forces the fan to run. It also checks your system, too! I don’t know how to check the temperature. I used to use cleanmymac, but I got rid of it later.

I’ll try this later today, thanks!

I ran that command on my M1 Air and the fan would not spin! :-(

Try the TGPro trial.
Among customized temperature/rpm settings, it has a max fan setting, which is loud.

Not true. Can't test fans because I have a MBAir. Try Mac Fans Control, it's universal and seems to work.

Manually - I use TG Pro for my M1 MPB fan control.
Its the perfect app whenever I consider some light gaming...

CleanMyMac X is junk bloatware, in my opinion. It is heavily advertised by the YTubers because they get paid to peddle it. Said program isn't needed on a Mac, especially an M1.
I agree that CMM is bloat, and it looks like that.

It does though have 1-2 functions which I havent seen in alternatives - "Free up purgable space" in the Maintenance tab - being the one I exclusively fire the CMM on for.

Edit: one more funtion in last edition - it cleans up universal binaries by removing Intel part and leaving ARM / Apple Silicone part.
I just got 500 Mb cleaned.

So, yes, bloat - but indeed some nice touches to it.
