Okay, I managed to download the video I wanted and even extracted the audio file from it via MPEG Streamclip. Now what I want to do is edit the audio portion so that the only thing I have left is a song that is somewhere in the audio clip. I don't know how exactly to do that. I tried using GarageBand but couldn't open the clip for some reason. There's probably over 7.5 minutes of audio but the song starts somewhere around 1:55 and ends around 4:24. I don't know how to do this. Can anyone help me?

iPod Trimming audio extracted from video to play on iPod

Press CMD-I to get the info pane, click on the options tab, then set start and stop time. Re-encode to cut out the obsolete parts in order to reduce file size if you must.
I use Super (erightsoft) to convert the audio to WAV (all you have to do is drag virtually any video file and it will convert the audio portion to WAV), then I open the WAV in audacity to trim the audio and add fade-ins and fade-outs.
Then I'll archive as Apple Lossless or mp3 depending on the source.

iTunes isn't working
I opened the information panel and chose Options. Put in start time and end time then clicked Okay. Audio still is all there, nothing trimmed out. I guess I am doing something wrong but I don't know what - really new at doing this type of thing.

It looks as if you're doing it right though:
Make sure to use this format "3:12.4" for 3 min 12.4 sec.
When you then double-click the song, it starts later and stops earlier. When you then choose "Create AAC version" from the Advanced menu, it re-encodes the song and you get the shorter sound file you wanted.
Instead of Create AAC version, you can also
* Create MP3 version
* Create AIFF version
* Create WAV version
* Create Apple Lossless version
The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences.

I created a new MPEG, info panel shows that it is a MPEG -2, Layer 3 (I have no idea what all that means). Anyway, when I double click it to play, it still starts at the beginning of the audio, not where I had put that I wanted it to start and still plays through to the end of over 7 minutes. I think I must be doing something wrong but I just don't know enough about this to figure it out on my own.
