I asked a "Genius", about how I could upgrade to Lion because I bought my computer prior to the release. He said when it comes out in a couple of days *COUGH*, then he correct himself really fast, weeks.

Idk what this tells us?

That some random guy used a common term, "in a few days", just so you'd go away most probably. :)

As far as I know, none of the staff know when it will be out... ? :(

Apple retail employees know nothing more than what you can get from public sources. They aren't briefed on any upcoming products until the day of (or at the very most the day/night before). The most they might know about is some sealed promo material showing up, but they aren't allowed to open that until the authorization pops up on their system from Apple corporate, which again is usually the day of or the day/night before.

So likely the guy was just repeating the same rumors that have been going around, and since their policy is to not confirm rumors, he had to correct himself.

Honestly, the guys in Apple stores are usually not as knowledgeable as us geeks who read MacRumors all the time :) During my last visit to the Apple store I was able to teach the employee there some OS X tricks (zooming and stuff) and it was totally new to him. Also, they don't seem to know much about hardware and software specifics of the models. The guys there even didn't know that it possible to configure an iMac with trackpad instead of mouse (after I proved it to them, they gave me a free trackpad ;) ).

Anyway, the Apple store workers are really nice and friendly, but I won't count on them being most knowledgeable Mac people out there. They usually repeat some simple marketing quotes they were apparently told (I was lucky that the two guys I had the pleasure dealing with quickly stopped doing that after they realized I know more about Apple than them).

P.S. If I were in charge at Apple I'd make all sale employes read MacRumors regularly ;) You can really pick up a trick or two here.

Thank you for the responses. Yes I was told that he doesn't know any more than I do. He did take me seriously though. I just thought you should know.
