So, I'm really going crazy with the way Trism scores things, and I'm wondering if it's just me or what...

I'm in Cambodia at the moment, and was in Thailand two months before, and travel a lot on buses/trains/taxis/etc and have found myself playing Trism fairly often. Normally I play Terminism because it's somewhat of a challenge, and normally I'll play for 10-30 minutes per game. But normally on a good game I'll sore around 300,000 thousand points because I get a bomb that blows up. BUT BUT BUT, my high score in Terminism is 8,348,400 or something along those lines, and that's because of a single combo that scored me 7.9 MILLION points.

Anyway, I'm wondering if I'm playing the game wrong and I should be getting higher scores or what. It seems strange that on average I'm getting around 300,000 points a game but then randomly I make one move that happens to score me 8 million points.

Anybody have a similar experience? Anybody have any tips for me, if in fact it is just me that sucks?

It frustrates the hell out of me too. Scoring just seems random. my highest score on Infinism is around 2,000,000 and that was caused by something like a 6 chain move giving me about 1.75 million points. But I have had 19 chain moves that only score 3000 points. Whats all that about?

Have you seen the online highscores? Something like 30 trillion?!

Hahaha, I've just made a comment about the scoring being ridiculous on the thread about how much money the devs have made with Trism. I like the game but the scoring is ridiculous. The multipliers for big combos are so huge it skews the whole scoring of the game. My wife can't stop playing it but, although I like it, the scoring really hurts the replayability for me - unless you're lucky and get a big chain, your scores will generally stay low.

On the bombs, they've always left me feeling that they're in there because otherwise I don't think there'd be an end to an infinitism game otherwise. If the pieces get to a position where you have no moves, it just reshuffles them, so bombs are kind of the only way it can end (in my experience, anyway) which feels kind of artificial.

wow, I'm thrilled and a bit surprised to have you guys see eye to eye with me on this - I really figured maybe I just wasn't "seeing the combos" like a pro should.

I totally agree with both of you, moopf you are right about the replayability thing. I really feel like my score has little to do with how fast I play, or generally how well I do.

my 8 million point combo was from a chain of 12, but I've had equally long chains (or at least damn close) that have never scored more then 50,000 or so points.

I think they aught to have an "alternate scoring mode" that scores in a more reasonable way - for instance I think that matching 3 blocks should be the least points, but you should get a small bonus for matching 4 blocks, a bigger bonus for 5 (along with the "rainbow block") and so on. I think that it would be GREAT if combos of course gave you significantly larger multiplyers but not so ridiculous - instead of ridiculous points there could be some sort of alternate reward, such as being able to manually place a rainbow block any where in the playing field, or something along those lines.

While I'm ranting about games (though I hate to totally derail my thread), the Arora Faint (I forget what it's called actually) game - I'm assuming I'm NOT missing something, but it's basically pointless at the moment correct? I'm a fairly big Nintendo DS fan (and no, I don't think the iPhone rivals the DS in gaming fun) and perhaps my favorite game is Puzzle Quest: Challenge of Warlords which is similar in concept (it is a bejeweled type game however, which I prefer) except the "spells" are much much better and actually useful. In the game, the spells you get use the "mana" you've earned to do things like destroy all blocks in the row you tap, etc. It's much more rewarding and a hell of a lot more fun to play. Anyway though, I digress - my point is, as of now there is no real "game" or "quests" in the game are there? You just "mine" then buy the (mainly) pointless spells and items and that's about it?

I suspect that scores in Trism have been generally lowered to avoid such ridiculous numbers as 1,000,000,000,000,000. Don't let yourself down as 300,000 is considered a lot now.

Congrats!

I'm with you guys. I can usually score 500,000-700,000 before I crumble at around level 7-8. However, my highest score is 7.8m or similar - and 7.6m came from a silly-never-to-be-repeated-combo-based-on-pure-luck!

I can't get anywhere near that score again.

Same with Terminism - first time I played, I used all my luck and got an 11.8m combo with a total of 11.9m. I think the nearly the whole screen 'disappeared' at one point to get that much.

Impossible to replicate. I notice it's not really the amount or continuing combos, more about the size of the area. Bigger area = bigger score.

Conclusion: Trism scoring is crazy.

As this seems to be the Trism thread can anyone tell me how to change the volume. It's very loud and when I do the volume control it only changes the ringer?

The super high scoring trism scores come about when you use alot of rainbow tiles in your combos, don't use them straight away but store then at the top of the screen, once you have a load set off a combo and hey presto.....
