Trouble installing bootcamp drivers on XP SP3

I just got everything brand new again: a Macbook and Windows XP SP3 integrated CD.
I installed Windows and I am now struggling to install the bootcamp drivers.
I run the 2.1 installer and nothing happens at all. nada, no error messages etc.
I presume that this is some problem with SP3, but I have SP3 integrated so I can't install SP2 , install bootcamp and then install SP3, unfortunately..


Any ideas?
I tried unpacking the .exe, but inside there's another exe anway...

Are you using Tiger? If so, you are limited to Windows XP w/SP2.

If you are using Leopard, no idea why it is not working. You might double check that the install CD is working correctly.

I assume that you have an install code for Windows XP. If so, you could barrow someone's Windows XP w/SP2 install CD and use your install code. Install Windows, the drivers, then do the updates.

It's Leopard with all the latest updates. The Mac is late 2008 unibody.
Immediately after the installation of win XP, I booted in OS X and installed NTFS-3G and that's how I transferred Bootcamp 2.1 drivers there (as network doesn't work on XP yet).

I can see many long-term solutions to this problem, such as installing vista which I have etc, but I just wanted to get some form of windows with IE6 up and running very quickly and that seemed like a good idea and now I'm stuck there for a second day now

As long as you are getting a good install with your Windows CD, then that is probably not the issue.

What about starting from scratch again.

Delete the BootCamp partition. Shut down. Boot from Mac install DVD. Run Disk Utilities and repair permissions and the HD. Then restart and boot to the Mac OS. Create your Bootcamp partition. Install Windows XP w/SP3.

Then use a USB Thumb Drive for the Bootcamp drivers instead of NTFS-3G. Or burn a CD with the drivers and use that.

See if that works.

P.S. It's 0130 so time to hit the hay. Hopefully you will get your system up and running. And if not, maybe someone else can chime in to help.

Thank you all for helpful hints.
The problem seemed to have been errorneous transfer of .exe files via NTFS-3G - I simply remounted the win xp image, rather than rebooting.
I installed bootcamp 2.1 from CD and all works fine now.
The ransfer between OsX and Mac also seems fine now.
