I am having trouble downloading and installing 10.13.6 on my MacPro 5,1. So far I am able to get to the MAS High Sierra page. In the upper there is a button that says "open". I click it and the installer says I need a firmware update to proceed. I thought I had already done so in the past, but I do it anyway. After almost ten minutes it boots up and goes back to High Sierra page. I again click open and same thing, tells me I need the firmware update. I do it again incase something was missed. 10 minutes later, same thing.

Is there another way I can download High Sierra? Why is it prompting me for the firmware over and over?

BTW my firmware is... MP51.007F.B03 and I am running El capitan.

Nathan

10.13.6 requires at least MP51.0089.B00 to run, MP51.007F.B03 is the first MP5,1 firmware upgrade released in 2010, MP51.0089.B00 is sixth firmware upgrade released by Apple. You have to upgrade the BootROM and that's why you can't bypass the initial screen asking it.

Use this instructions here MP5,1: What you have to do to upgrade to Mojave (BootROM upgrade instructions thread) to download it again if needed and then do the upgrade BootROM process (current one is 144.0.0.0.0 from 10.14.5/10.14.6) correctly.

Read all the notes, BootROM upgrade process has a lot of pitfalls that are documented in the first post of the above linked thread.

I am trying to do the same with my Mid 2012 5.1 Mac Pro currently running El Cap. When I go to get the High Sierra download via the Apple Store and click "Open" on the download page, I get a Mojave window saying I should first install High Sierra. Going around in circles with this. What could be holding this back from getting High Sierra? I've read the instructions noted in the link above several times. Any help would be much appreciated.

The link provided in the instructions of the first post of the MP5,1: What you have to do to upgrade to Mojave (BootROM upgrade instructions thread) thread, number 6, still works, just checked.

You can use installinstallmacos.py too, download 17G65 build:

I haven't ever run a script like that on GitHub. I'm a bit concerned that this issue may compromise my system if the standard link to High Sierra is not working right.

So, your only other option is to use another Mac to download it.

Btw, installinstallmacos.py is developed by Pixar, gregneagle is the Sr. Systems Engineer at Pixar/Walt Disney Animation Studios, you won't ever get anything near than an official Apple tool than that…

Update: Looks like my 5770 is dead, black screen. Ebay sells 5770 pulls for around $50 and I don't want to do that. Would you recommend I flash my GTX 670 card? I have never flashed before. I have Windows 7 in bootcamp on the MacPro but no PC in the house.

GTX 670 is not self-flashable, the only NVIDIA card that you can flash yourself is GTX 680.
