iPhone Trouble updating 3gs preserving baseband

Hi there,

I am quite new to this forum..I am on the verge of giving up because I have been trying for days and all I have only been given false hopes of ever getting my iphone updated. I am also quite new to this entire procedure of updating this iphone.

So, to begin with, I am trying to update my iphone 3gs (unlocked and jailbroken) because none of the apps are compatible with my current version 4.0. The modem firmware is 05.13.04.

I have tried following many tutorials on how to update the iphone. I have used programs such as the latest version of RedSn0w and Sn0wbreeze together with itunes. itunes is another problem by itself. I keep getting error codes such as 3194, 1600, 1601, 32, 11 to a point I don't want to use itunes unless absolutely necessary. I tried to either stitch the ShSH blobs to the ipsw to create a custom ipsw but redsn0w crashes and stops working. If I try a simple restore ipsw option it tells me exploit fail and I have quit the program.

I just want to update this phone preserving the baseband, so I don't lose the unlock and jailbreak features. Is there some method I am missing? I tried updating to either ios 5.1.1 or 6.0 but neither is working. I am at a loss.

Are the SHSH blobs you're using for your device? If its iOS 6 SHSH blobs, use iFaith to check if they're complete

Make sure your hosts file is pointing to apple. Type gs.apple.com into the address bar and if it leads you to cydia, then that means you need to fix it

Thanks for the reply. I used ifaith to check the 6.0 SHSH blobs and sure enough it wasn't valid. So I tried the 5.1.1 and it got the green light. Everything went through smoothly. Just jailbreak and unlocked it, with the baseband preserved I am ecstatic that I can finally download new apps again.

glad you got it working! On the 3gs and 4, you can upgrade to unsigned firmware only if you have SHSH blobs. on the 4s and up, you don't have that option
