I have the correct composite connector (RGB + RW) but when I connect the iPad to play a movie through the TV there is a problem with the horizontal hold on the TV and the picture is distorted. I did not have this issue when playing movies wight my iPod touch. I want to stream Netflix.

When I hook up the iPod touch all I get is sound. So ... Distorted picture from iPad, no picture from iPod - is the problem the Apple composite cable? Should I be using something else?

Your cable has two ends. One end is connected to your iPad or iPod. The other end of your cable is connected to your TV. You say nothing about your TV. Which model TV are you using? Which TV ports are you using?
It's a fairly old TV - not one of the new flat screen HD jobs. I have an Apple composite cable, one end inthe Ipod/Ipad and the other end has two sets of connectors - one has red, green and blue RCA plugs and they go into the RGB receptors on the back of the TV. The other part of the cable has a yellow and a white RCA plug and they go into the Y and W receptors on the back of the TV.
Are you sure? The Apple Component AV Cable has five RCA plugs on one end. The red, green, and blue plugs are not RGB; they are the component video plugs. The other two plugs are red and white. These latter two plugs handle two channels of audio.
The Apple Composite AV Cable has three RCA plugs--a yellow plug for video and a red and white pair for two-channel audio. I can find no reference to combination component/composite cable. If one exists, then it is a bad idea to connect your iPad to your TV simultaneously by component and composite cables.
Yep. I assumed that RGB meant red, green and blue. It is a component cable. I made a mistake - the audio plugs are red and white, not yellow and white.
I had the same issue with my two year old component cable. I realzed that I was using the charger that came with the cable.
I switched it for the higher wattage iPad charger and it worked.
