Trouble with boot-camp partition

Hello every one, Im still quite new to using the mac, but i have had a bit of trouble with boot camp, and saw this as a good place to have any questions answered on it.
I was attempting to delete the partition which contained windows to free up space for the mac os X, but i destroyed the windows data by reformatting that partition, assuming i could then make it part of the original OSX partition. Latter trying to do so with the boot camp asstaint (rather stupidly looking at the instructions on it after reformatting the drive) and it wouldn't let me get rid of the partition. Hopefully i have just missed something rely simple which will turn it back in to one mac partition, if any one could tell me how to do so i would be much obliged.

To remove the Windows partition you can use the Boot Camp assistant and select Create or Remove a Windows Partition and then follow the prompts.

You loose all the data that is inside that partition.

i understand all that data will be deleted, i think it already has been as a reformated it. when i go onto the boot camp assistant, and i press continue it says.. " Boot camp assistant can not be used: the startup disk is not suported"

From where you are I would suggest that you use SuperDuper to save a bootable copy of your system off to a external firewire drive (or USB if that is all that you have). Once you can boot to the external drive, you can reformat the internal drive (back to one partition) and then use SuperDuper to copy the system back onto the original drive. This gets around the problem of with BootCamp Assistant.

It may be that the partition is still there.
The Boot Camp Assistant only works with a Volume that has a single partition.
What happen when you try to use Disk Utility to eliminate the "boot camp" partition and the try to use the Boot Camp Assistant?
