I bought a new 6th generation iPad. I have tried to use my existing earpods and get crackling noise. I can move the jack and get a good connection but the slightest movement and the crackling starts. When watching a video, if the crackling begins, it will stop the video. I am also unable to use the built-in remote. I have an older iPad and the earbuds work fine. Any ideas as to what may be going on?

Sounds like the jack is faulty. Disconnecting you headphones should pause playback, so that fits with the device thinking they have been removed. If the headphones work fine in other devices that points to your iPad. Can you try another set of headphones in the same iPad?
