I just purchased an OWC Mercury Elite Pro external hard drive and am having trouble getting it to work in WinXP Pro via bootcamp. The drive functions flawlessly in OSX but when I attempt to use it with XP I can't get it to display in the "My Computer" folder along with my other drives. When I plug in the drive the computer notifies me that the device has been connected and I can "stop" the drive to disconnect it but can't figure out how to put data on it. I have tried firewire400/800 and USB all to no avail.

How is the drive formatted?

I'm sure you have the drive formatted for use with a PC and not for use with a Mac.

Since the WinXP Pro side "sees" the drive, does it ask you if you want to reformat?

Wouldn't the drive have shipped formatted Fat32? Anyway, no Windows does not prompt me to do anything with the hard drive. I tried to manually install the hard drive and nothing happened either.

I went to the OWC web-site and looked at the Mercury Elite Pro... it says that it's "Time Machine ready means that our external hard drives keep an up-to-date copy of all of your files and document under OS X Leopard™. Go back in time to recover anything with ease.

This might mean that it was formatted for Mac when shipped..... when it's mounted on the Mac side, try looking at "get info" for the drive. It should say how it's formatted.
