I purchased a space gray M1 MBA 8C/16GB/1TB and I had this weird problem where the system would react as if the space bar was being pressed, but my hands were not on the keyboard. SO I exchanged it. After a couple of days the new machine did the same thing. I talked to AppleCare and a genius at the store, and they said they had never heard of such a thing, but the only thing they could suggest was starting from scratch, with a manual data load, rather than migration assistant. This is did, and 10 minutes ago it happened again. I will be typing and there will be a space between every letter. if I take my hands off the keyboard, it just keeps filling spaces. Anyone else notice anything like this? appreciate any input. Could be it has nothing to do with the hardware, but I am stumped. I could return this computer, but then I would be relying on a 2010 MB, and that is not a long term solution.

Thanks in advance.

Are you using the M1 in clamshell mode with an external monitor or standalone use?
Good question. I do sometimes us it that way (apple wireless keyboard and old fashioned USB mouse), but the issue does not occur then. It occurs when I am using the computer by itself, with the built in keyboard

waaaiiittt.... maybe the wireless keyboard is being pressed in another location. Say when my wife is in the office, and is not using the keyboard, but maybe setting some paper on it or something... that would make sense...

Unpair the keyboard for a bit and see if the problem disappears. Your wife may have been playing tricks on you. :->
