Trouble with wireless netgear adapter

i have an emac in my living room wired to a netgear router. i have a netgear wireless usb adapter that came with the router but my emac isnt able to see the adapter. reason id like wireless is for xbox live in my bedroom. i have a new 24" imac also in my room which connects to internet instantly and works brilliantly. i have wireless adapter for xbox also. i tried wiring the xbox to imac but no luck lol

does anyone know of a way of my emac seeing the adapter, all i require is xbox live to work in my room, any help will be much appreciated!

What chipset does the USB adapter use, and look for a copy of that driver if Netgear doesn't provide one.

what do you mean by chipset? (sorry im a noob with this stuff) ive found a couple forums with driver recommendations but either the website doesnt load or exist or the driver doesnt work at all

Without knowing what the device is, it is hard for anyone to help you. Basically we'd be as stumped if you said "Help I can't get my HP printer to work with the computer" and never told us any more. We don't know what router or USB wireless device you are having trouble with. Specifics do help especially when the devices require drivers.

Netgear uses several different chipsets, while Apple tends to use Atheros and Broadcom.

So if you wanted to add a non-Apple wireless card to the Mac Pro, you'd just choose a similar card by someone else. Plug it in and Apple's drivers should recognize it.

Apple doesn't hide the chipset anymore so looking at my iMac (in, About this Mac) i see ...

Same thing here, if Netgear doesn't have a driver, just look for someone who does provide one for a similar chipset.
