Hi,

Have a dead 2017 MBP that up to last night only had a no picture black screen issue. The hinge area especially the black trim around the 'Macbook Pro' inscription has become torn up and I assumed the panel is dead. The charger is also lost and it uses a usb-c charger. Tried the one from my dell xps 13 and next thing I know only the 'ESC' key lights up and it no longer makes that mac turning on sound. Caps lock will light up as well. Up to last night I was also able to hear audible prompts to enter user name. No more. So wonder maybe the battery is dead and the charger just doesn't work? Or maybe the whole circuit board is toast? Going to buy a usb-c to hdmi cable to test it out. What do you guys think?

Thanks

Just to update thread. Took the broken MBP to Apple store and they lent me a usb-c charger. Took like a few multiple tries to get the machine to chime using CTRL_CMD_P_R and CTRL_CMD key combinations. We also hooked up an external monitor and again it took multiple tries until I had a picture on the screen showing we were in the recovery environment. This was good news as apparently was able to determine that the laptop's circuit board was functional and that it was charging and that the trackpad was functional. So I ordered a replacement panel off of Ebay and when it comes in I will attempt to replace the screen. Hopefully the video adapter still works.

Thanks
