I have an OLD iMac, think first or second edition (the thick ones!) that I need to get up and running.
After a lengthy boot process and signing in to my account I am left with an empty desktop screen, no icons or launch bar!
Tried several times now.
Not sure what to try next.
Unwilling to let it become e-waste just yet.
.

What have you tried so far?

Have you tried booting in safe mode?

What is the iMac made of? Plastic or aluminum?

Do you have another Mac to trouble shoot from?

More info would be very helpful. Check under the stand for more info.

It's too old even for light jobs. Not worth revising.
Plastic 21.5" iMac 2006 or 2007 model at the latest, low RAM, small HDD.
The screen resolution is decent for a mod (to be used as a monitor) but it's cheaper to buy a new monitor now.
Only worthy for research + fun projects, I guess.
