Truble installing!

Ok here is the story bare with me/

So I was getting alot of kernal panics so before I was going to call apple I was just going to reinstall OS X . So I dig up the disks out of my closet and start reinstalling all goes fine untill I put disk 2 in and it started to install about halfway then AN ERROR! So I take the disk out yup its scratched! So I call apple to see if I could get a replacement. They said yes and I got one today so excited to reinstall OS X I run to the iBook and open the package and start installing disk one all over again... Then disk two.... INSTALLATION FAILED (did not even start on the installation) WTF!!!! D*** IT!!!!!

What can I do/

you could try to make a custom install, meaning installing barely essential stuff, and drop extra software and stuff. you can install MacosX only with disk one if you do a custom install. before that you could insert disk one startup with Command-D and do a hardware test.

use the disc utility on the panther 1 disc (quit out of installer) to reformat the drive. then also select clean install when you begin the installation.

I've had this problem before too and, like the other responder said, a skeleton install together with what I mentioned might work

something else to think about. The kernel panics you were having might be due to bad RAM I've had installs quit before due to bad RAM as well. Remove any additional RAM you have from slot 2 before the install.

Sounds like a hardware problem.
Definitely run the hardware test - you may find that your RAM was fine, but your hard drive is dying.

Ya I think it is the HD or the airport (I had this same prob just not as bad on another mac). I am going to do the hardware test right now...

Airport: Passed
Logic Board: Passed
Mass Storage: Passed
Memory: Passed
Video Ram: Passed

the hardware test is not a perfect tool and doesn't 'catch' all problems, it can still be a hardware problem, you might have to call Apple on this one. if you really want to get it installed the next step would be to have another mac, hook them up and put yours in firewire target disk mode, it'll appear as an external storage on the other mac's desktop, from there you cold try again to get the install done but if it's a hardware problem and you manage to install OsX you're just delaying the inevitable.
